When you question someone asking what their most desired performance saloon car is, the list of BMWs, Mercedes, and Audi's is thrown at you. Whilst these manufacturers boast such fantastic models, you are almost never met with the positive cry of "an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio!". But why is this the case?
The release of the Giulia Quadrifoglio
We believe that there is something here from Alfa Romeo that all car enthusiasts, car lovers or car buyers should be going crazy for! In 2015 Alfa Romeo released the Giulia (952) model, a stunning 5-door saloon taking the name of the late 1970s Giulia models. The Giulia Quadrifoglio was unveiled in the same year and Alfa Romeo sold 10,558 examples to customers. This tripled to approximately 35,000 in 2017 and 2018. However, compare this to the Alfa Romeos closest rivals at release, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, where almost 40,000 examples were sold in 2015 alone and the BMW M3, where 35,000 examples were sold, both blowing Alfa Romeo's numbers out of the water by almost triple the sales.
What does the Giulia entail for you?
Fast forward to 2022, where many enthusiasts have started to realise just how spectacular the Alfa Romeo really is. With a 2.9L Twin-Turbocharged V6, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio produces 510 bhp at 600nm torque, combined with the 8-Speed Automatic transmission the Giulia Quadrifoglio smashes 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
How does this compare to its competitors?
This obliterates the current Giulia Quadrifoglio competitor of the Mercedes-Benz and their AMG E53, which manages 4.5s 0-62mph, beating it by a comfortable 0.6s. Similarly, the current 2022 BMW M3/M4 competition range manages the same 0-62mph time of 3.9 that the Giulia Quadrifoglio produces.
Let's talk prices!
Considering the history of the BMW M Sport range and Mercedes-Benz's AMG range, Alfa Romeo has thrown a complete curveball their way in only 5 years of production of the new Giulia Quadrifoglio. Alfa Romeo is competitive with their prices as well starting their new 2022 Giulia Quadrifoglio at £74,999. Considering the BMW M3 starts at £78,175 and the M4 at £79,495, Alfa Romeo is already beating BMW with a lower price. Mercedes-Benz priced their new 2022 E53 (since the C63 has been discontinued) at a lower price of £73,325, however, the E53 produces almost 100bhp less at 430 bhp.
But what about the interior?
Most importantly, taking into consideration the standard prices, Alfa Romeo has minimal additional packages and features that you can add to the Giulia Quadrifoglio. You may be thinking, 'that's not a good thing', however, this works extremely well in favour of the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The reason for the lack of additional features is because the Giulia Quadrifoglio already supplies most of the features that all drivers desire. From Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Harmon & Kardon sound system (which come also comes in the BMW), to Wireless charging and Keyless entry, the Giulia Quadrifoglio blows the M3, M4, and E53 prices out of the water.
What does this mean for BMW and Mercedes?
BMW and Mercedes-Benz offer numerous packages and optional features that by the time you have added up the cost of all these together you are looking at well over £80,000-£100,000. A fully featured Giulia Quadrifoglio will cost you £91,000, which includes racing bucket seats, a whole new Akrapovic exhaust system, carbon ceramic brakes and plenty more desirable interior and exterior details and features. Compare that to a fully featured BMW M3, you will be looking at £100,243 for the fully-kitted German car.
