If your Land Rover no longer has a manufacturer service plan, you’re free to shop around and look for the best option to meet your budget and car’s requirements. Here, we share the sort of questions to ask before committing to your next Land Rover service, and quiz our Land Rover dealer trained technicians on what to look out for.
Interim, Minor or Major?
We will always suggest sticking to manufacturer guidelines on servicing intervals, so it’s important to compare apples with apples. By sharing your Land Rover’s registration and mileage, most service centres or garages will be able to advise what type of service is due. Others may simply quote for a basic minor service (normally an oil change), which may sound cheap, but it may turn out your Land Rover requires more significant attention.
You should be able to see what’s due by turning on your Land Rover’s ignition which, if the service is nearly due, will give the relevant service due with a mileage countdown.
How much should I look to pay?
An interim cost under £400, with a major service typically a couple of hundred pounds more. The price you pay depends on many factors. For example, a 2012-on Range Rover has more filters than a Land Rover Discovery, even though they principally run the same engine. As with any vehicle though, things like the size of the engine, whether it is a petrol or diesel, and the mileage affects what’s required.
What’s covered in a Land Rover service?
Here at the Prestige Cars Kent Service Centre, we follow Land Rover’s maintenance schedule for all their models. Depending on whether you have a Discovery, Evoque, or top of the line Range Rover, Land Rover lists different items and times to inspect the likes of filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Skimping on these items may save money, but over time will start to affect the reliability of your Land Rover, and ultimately cost more to rectify.
How do I check for any recalls?
A Land Rover dealer, or an independent Land Rover backed service centre can advise on any recall information or software updates needed to keep your pride and joy in tip-top shape. Here, we have all the relevant equipment to carry out Land Rover updates, just like a main dealer.
