Should I Buy a New Car or a Used Car?

Whether you should buy a new or used car is a question which faces all of those looking to change their vehicle. There are compelling arguments for both sides, too, and if you’re starting on your car-buying journey then it can be quite bewildering.

Here at Prestige Cars Kent, we’ve got thousands of great used cars to check out today. But if you’re in a muddle about whether you should buy a new or used car, then read on as we’ve got some of the key things to bear in mind.

Budget

A good place to start when buying a car - regardless of its age - is to set a budget. In doing so, you establish a good baseline that you can use to guide what you buy. Remember to factor in other costs too, such as servicing and repairs, so that you’ve got a monthly budget to follow.

Here at Prestige Cars Kent, we offer several finance packages to help spread the cost of any car purchase. Get in touch today to see how we can help you get behind the wheel of a new or used car.

Choice

If you’re looking for a brand-new car, then you do have the freedom to choose a car exactly as you’d like it. You’ll pay more for this, of course, but you’ll be able to have full control over a car’s colour and specification so you can get it just right.

But when shopping used, there’s more choice overall so you should still be able to get a car which meets your requirements. We have cars of all shapes, sizes and colours here so there is set to be one that’ll work for you.

Depreciation

When buying a new car, much of that initial cost is lost towards depreciation. From the moment you drive a new car away, it loses some of that initial value and this is one of the biggest downsides of buying a new vehicle.

However, when you buy a used car this depreciation has already been taken into account, so you could find yourself behind the wheel of a more generously equipped car for less outlay. Used cars will suffer a less noticeable depreciation curve, too, meaning that you could get more money back when it comes time to sell.

Mileage

When you’re shopping for a car, it’s worth considering what kind of mileage you’d be happy with. Of course, you’ll pay less for a car with more miles, but then you’ll need to factor in a little extra money for servicing and larger repairs.

However, regardless of how many miles a car has, each one that we have on sale has been put through a comprehensive 175-point quality check to make sure that everything is just as it should be. Plus, all vehicles come accompanied by a 90-day guarantee for extra peace of mind.

Factor in servicing and MOTs

While you’re shopping for a used vehicle, remember that second-hand cars will need routine servicing to keep them in the best condition. You may also want to set aside a little extra money to cover unforeseen fixes and repairs. When purchasing a car from us there is the option to upgrade to a PCKCare Warranty, which covers your vehicle for several faults and even includes a courtesy car should your vehicle need to stay in for longer repairs.

Remember, too, that used cars will need an MOT each year when they reach the third anniversary of their registration date. We can take care of doing an MOT, too, with each test costing £39.99.

We’ve got hundreds of fantastic used cars in stock here at Prestige Cars Kent, so please get in touch today if you’re interested in getting behind the wheel of a new vehicle.
